Personas

Hello all!

As a part of this weeks work we also did personas. Personas are done to help us to evaluate our design ideas during to process. For example we can use them by thinking  how would these people use or feel about this feature I am adding now. Personas were created based on the segments we had decided for the product.

Laura Makinen is 28 years old and she is from Jyväskylä. A teacher by profession and teaches UI in Tampere University of Technology. As always prepared and serious for delivering the lectures.1 minute late is a great late she considers. She has vast knowledge in present and future technology trends and technologies. Writing is her hobby and her preference is science fiction. Her novels and journal papers were published in the school’s magazines many times. She loves Class room and imagines a world with full of digital equipment’s and machines’ she noticed the present class room environment and furniture’s are not that healthy and motivating. She is always looking for a comfortable and useful technical stuff to implement in her class room.She believes the future class room will be much utilizable and user task oriented.She believes A 3D holographic display, Smart healthy furniture, VR, AR and other multi interacted elements will be introduced.

Proof of Concept

Above you could see our presentation about the proof of concept and MVP testing. Testing was done to achieve proof that our idea would be supported by user and it would fix the problem we chose. As explained the MVP test was done with the storyboard comic and open discussion about the idea. We asked few opening question for the conversation to start like "What do you think about?". People we interview were all very open minded and very talkative so it was easy kept feedback. We showed the comic to the 4 students (university, vocational school) and to 2 adult students (Adult education center). They were from age 21 to 32, 4 women and 2 men.

Prototype building

Building of the prototype took place in TUT language center were we captured one big table for ourselves and spread all our things. We started with taking measures of our test persons (the dolls) and fixed the part drawings to match this size. After this we decided that everybody should do one proto and after finishing we could choose which one is the best for user evaluation. So, we went to work by using milk cardboard and different size of packets, glue, tape, wire, scissors and box cutter. Everyone took a different route combining the parts for the chair (parts represented in last blog post). It was fun and we discussed on the way if someone had hard to add next part in their design. The hardest thing to do was the turning from the chair to the treadmill. We had a lot of discussion and ended up with three different ways for the idea. When all was finished we compared the designs. Ideation

Workshop started with solo ideation. Brainstorming solo brought us seven ideas. After the solo thinking we changed papers and tried to come up ideas based on team mate’s ideas. With this we came up with five ideas. After these parts we looked through all the ideas this was and counted there to be twelve of them. We then added them on board with pots-it notes. Next round of our ideation was reversed brainstorming. Which meant that we had to come up with the most crazy or bad idea we could think of. With this we got seven ideas you can see in the picture. So now we had total of 19 ideas to evaluate. We choose three criteria to find what could be the most useful ideas for us. Our criteria were: Desirability Well-being Useful After voting from our ideas we had three best ideas to go with: Wide display Good: Better flexibility, you don’t have to be in the specific place to addend the lecture.
