Ideation

Workshop started with solo ideation. Brainstorming solo brought us seven ideas. After the solo thinking we changed papers and tried to come up ideas based on team mate’s ideas. With this we came up with five ideas. After these parts we looked through all the ideas this was and counted there to be twelve of them. We then added them on board with pots-it notes.

Next round of our ideation was reversed brainstorming. Which meant that we had to come up with the most crazy or bad idea we could think of. With this we got seven ideas you can see in the picture. So now we had total of 19 ideas to evaluate. We choose three criteria to find what could be the most useful ideas for us. Our criteria were:

  1. Desirability
  2. Well-being
  3. Useful

After voting from our ideas we had three best ideas to go with:

  • Wide display
    • Good: Better flexibility, you don’t have to be in the specific place to addend the lecture. Change environment of the classroom. Better visibility
    • Bad: Lack of concentration. Possibly lack of physical interaction. Technical problems
  • VR
    • Good: More visualisation. More Personalisation
    • Bad: Not everybody feels comfortable being in the VR world all day long
  • Smart chair
    • Good: Good for health. Increase concentration/ motivation
    • Bad: Too relaxed. Too much distraction. Technical problem

From these we decided that problem we want to solve would connect the idea of smart chair. Smart chair was the new idea we come up during the ideation. Basically the smart chair is a chair that can change to be basic chair, sofa, running/walking mat of provide opportunity to work in standing position. It could also have personal display to help with working on classroom.
Methods used in workshop were a bit impractical for us in the beginning. We only came up with big ideas for the whole concept for ideas who to use some exciting technology some way. We felt that we didn’t so to say get any new ideas. We just wrote down ones we had had from the beginning of the project. In the end of ideation process with did find at least one perfectly new idea to that could actually work so in overall the ideation workshop turned out to be useful after all. We had hoped that workshop would give us more resource to start the ideation process. In workshop we were pretty confused when we just had to start to throw ideas out of blue with minimal preparing.

Main outcome of the workshop was that we now have concrete way to go forward. Before the workshop we had a lot of wide ideas and concepts that we could work with but the ideation helped us the focus on something specific. We have clear problem we want to focus and solve. Even have some idea to start with the development process.
